Sketch... trip sketchings and stuff

Meow there, Monday!  Took a quick trip to Manila last week.  Didn't get to do much as it was just 2 nights and 2 days... really short trip!  Drew these two hair sketches from the inflight magazine during the short plane ride.  Took some pics of fun, interesting and pretty stuff I saw while sightseeing.  😺😺😺

Meow there, Monday!  Posting a bunch of feline cuteness I've come across when I go malling. I certainly would love to buy and own everything cute thing I see, but of course, that's just not realistic. So I just snap photos of them!   I'd rather spend my money on art materials...  =^.^=

Mall Finds... Fashionista Barbie notebooks

Saw these at the mall sometime last year...  Aren't they sooooo cute and beautifully drawn?!  I'm loving the vintage-y look of these fashion illustrations.  A bit blurry though as I took these photos with my "vintage" phone camera... =^.^=

I love watching artists working/drawing!  You can learn some very useful tips just by watching them draw!

Akzhan Abdalieva...

Just discovered about her art yesterday morning on facebook.  I LOVE her art!!!  An abstract and art deco mix, Klimt elements, a slight touch of traditional asian art but executed in her own artistic and cultural point of view. I also really love the color palette she uses... so rich, vibrant, earthy and exotic.  She's from Kazakhstan and the interesting bit is that she has an art doctorate... how cool is that!  Never knew art school could get that academic!  Well, at least for me, I find that really cool!  Anyway, looking at her art just makes my hands itch for my paints.  I haven't oil painted since art school... that was a really loooooong time ago!  But I think I want to try my hand at those water-soluble oil paints.  So much more practical and safe for the health.  Turpentine fumes really stink!  And harmful too!

Sketch... blue, white and Girls Generation...

Meow there!  Been watching Girls Generation music videos A LOT the past several weeks.  So, my sketch today is inspired by one of their videos - "Gee".  I love that dance scene where the background is all white and they all wore white shirts and dark blue skinny jeans.  Love that visual aesthetic!  And yeah, also partly because blue is my fave color... =)

K-Pop!... Girls' Generation

Currently very fond of some songs by the Korean Pop girl group, Girls' Generation.  I just love everything about these songs and their music videos... the visual aesthetic, the catchy tunes, the colors, the creative dance choreography  and of course, the fashions!   I love their cute outfits, especially those in the "Oh" music video.  Been listening to these songs for a few weeks now.  =)

I just find it such a waste that the beautiful art gets swept up at the end of the day... gone forever.   All that hard work (knee busting and back breaking!) and all those long hours!  

Figure-studies with Posemaniacs

Posemaniacs is awesome!  Really cool website for artists wanting to practice their figure drawing/sketching skills.  For a free reference tool, it certainly has many useful feature.  Yes, FREE!!!  There are so many poses to choose from, take your pick of male, female or child figures.  Standing figure?  Seated?  Or you prefer action-packed kung-fu poses?  Action-hero stance?  Or you want your female figure in pin-uppy, sexy poses?  Your guy posing macho?  You've got it in Posemaniacs.  A ton of different poses!  What's also really great is that the figures are in 3D and each pose comes with several angle/view-shots.  You can swivel the figures sideways to get that particular angle you want.   The figures are in muscle-layer, so you can draw with the accurate muscle definitions.

Other features in the website are 30-Second Drawing (for quick figure-sketching), Negative Figure Drawing and 2 sections devoted to hand poses and face angles...  Also available as an app on IPhone/IPod.
