Flag of Flowers and Foliage

 

Meeeoooow!  It's Independence Day today here in the Philippines!  Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!  So, going with the theme, I drew another botanical version of the Philippine flag.  This was fun to do!  I used Unipin fineliner pen for the line art and then rendered it with Kuretake Tambi Gansai gouache paints.  Still learning to paint with gouache.  I can't seem to get that creamy, wet texture, it gets dry fast and I can't load the paintbrush with paint.  Still trying to get back into doing art/creative stuff... Hard to do when life stuff gets in the way and emotionally draining.... Anyway, have a lovely and meowy day!

Meeeoooow, Monday!  Purple power for this clematis floral design.  I used to draw clematis a lot years ago.  It's a lovely flower and fun to draw, and still is!  Painted this one recently and used the Kuretake Gansai Tambi gouache paints I bought several months ago... I like how vibrant the colors are, but not quite used to gouache paints.  Can't quite get the consistency right.  It's either too thick on the brush or too thin and watery.   Didnt know there's a learning curve for gouache paints.

As mentioned previously, I haven't been feeling creative the past several years... unpleasant life stuff.  Gets in the way of creative stuff. I have many unfinished/unrendered sketches in my art pad that have stayed in pencil-sketch stage for years.  This clematis is one of them.  Sometimes it's just procrastination, not knowing how to proceed to the next stage... Color is one of my weaknesses, which is kinda why i do a lot of black fineliner doodles.  I love color but I often get stumped when deciding on what color combos to use, despite having 800+ color pins on my pinterest for inspiration. So I would scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll through my color pins/board, yet still unsure!   For this one, I decided to just play with it, including the background.  Not quite feeling this color combo and background, but i can always draw and render new ones!

Sugus

Meeeoooow, Monday!  Felt like doing a pet portrait of one of my cats.  Meet Sugus,,, he's a stray that was hanging around the yard.  Named him after the Sugus candy from 19-something, childhood memories... hahaha... His coloring and personality made me think of that candy.. cuddly and yummy!  I seem to like naming my cats after food - Pickles, Soba, Burrito, Skittles, Pawpaw, Coffee, Jams, Meiji (Japanese chocolate brand), Kewpie (the Japanese mayo, not the doll), Tori (Japanese for chicken), Charamel Torta (she's tortoiseshell cat - charcoal black with caramel drizzles, Chewie Mentos (literally chewy, been bitten 5x by him!).  Yeah, I have lots of cats, but not as many as years ago.  Currently have only 7.  They're all strays or descendants of those strays.  Have a lovely and meowy day!

Meeeoooow, Monday!  Happy 2022!  Another new year, hope this one is going to be a good one, or at least a neutral one.  2021 was rather scrappy.  Anyway, drawing a different style of foliage this time...  still in black ink of course!   Been wanting to do colors but haven't gotten around to buying new inkpens.  Not quite fond of the colors I currently own.  Sooooo, it's all black ink for the mean time!
